It was about 16 years ago when I was gifted
www.didntthathurt.com (don't go there, it's long gone) as a
domain name for my birthday by Andy Parmann. There were no real
plans as to what we were going to do with it. It was a domain name
based on my AOL Instant Messenger handle at the time. Maybe Andy
thought I would make it a website featuring my artwork or
something, who knows? At age 22, making a few bucks an hour at our
shitty jobs, in the early 2000's, something as trivial as a domain
name registration was a well thought out gift.
A few months later we moved into the Fratney house together along with Scott from Forever Is Forgotten and our lives went as they did. We each paid $200 a month in rent. We scraped by to make it work. Andy would cover me when I was short and we had a landline, my last ever, for a period of time because I couldn't afford a cellphone yet.
It's fitting that this first podcast is Andy and I discussing running shows with a 22 year old. It's hard for us, in our 30's, working on our careers, figuring out our lives, to really recognize how far we've come. I feel like future Bill & Ted warning current Bill & Ted about what's about to happen to their lives.
I'm stoked on Milwaukee, still. I'm stoked on punk rock still. I'm stoked on young people, still, even though I'm tip toeing up to age 40. I hope that these discussions are productive. I'm a better person than I was at 22. That's the goal.
We've got some plans ahead of us still. I hope y'all get something out of this. I'm open to suggestions. Also, I want to talk to you. Don't be afraid to pitch me your ideas.
